WE ARE
HOUSE OF
SAWAH

House of Sawah, a surfer’s home amongst the rice fields on the doorstep of West Java’s most iconic wave. The rolling rights of Batu Karas, a spiritual twin of the peeling perfection found at Australia’s Noosa and California’s Malibu. Come and you’ll experience a side of Indonesia that’s been a well-kept secret among travelling surfers for decades.

HoS founder Anthony Dodds’ first visit was back in 2011, while on assignment to photograph local surf legend Husni Ridwan. He left inspired by the welcoming vibe, lush environment, and relaxed attitude of locals in and out of the water. Returning year after year set in motion a vision to create a space for locals and travellers to come together, and with friends Jack and Tyson it became a reality in 2019.

What started as a handful of boutique surf shacks has grown into a creative community hub, a place for everyone to come and do their thing, whatever that is. Workshops, jam nights, meet-ups, a place to stay, eat, drink, celebrate and surf, whether first-timer or nose-rider. Just like the easy-going village of Batu Karas, House of Sawah welcomes all with open arms.
